Magic Potions in Playgroup!

Report and photos from Clare Ryan

For the last few weeks, Playgroup have enjoyed reading the book 'Room on the Broom' which features, as its main character, a very friendly witch. To celebrate their wonderful work which has included some fantastic writing, pictures and maths work, the children made a magic potion on Thursday 7th May 2020. Obviously, magic wands were needed first so the children decorated their own! This was followed by writing magic spells before moving outside for the magic potions!

The children were fascinated to watch the reactions involved in mixing vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, bubble bath, food colouring and glitter! The magic potion bubbled as the children waved their wands and said their magic words! They really enjoyed the chance for practical learning (which is very important for young children) and had fun making predictions and observations about their potion!

End of Term School Assembly

Report and Photo from Clare Ryan

Friday 8th May 2020 was the last day of the first term of the school year for St Mary's School staff and children. As usual, we celebrated this with an end-of-term assembly. This was somewhat shorter than usual due to the lack of space for the whole school to congregate at our temporary school site. Prizes were awarded to the students in each class who had been earned the most award points in the last term.

In Playgroup, Tyler and Sophie were pleased to both win prizes as there was a tie! Savanna was the happy prize winner in Class 1. Class 2 saw another tie with Connor and Kailey both winning. Ryan was the proud winner in Class 3 and Shannon took the prize in Class 5. The Endeavour Cup was awarded to Connor. His class teacher, Miss Julia commented on his progress in reading and writing and praised his attitude.

Easter Egg Hunt

Report and photos by Clare Ryan

Luckily, Thursday 17th April 2020 was a bright sunny day! The children at St Mary’s School and Crèche were invited by Steve to the Residency for an Easter egg hunt. The younger children were especially enthusiastic about continuing the tradition championed by Marina and Sean Burns.

The children were welcomed to the Residency by Co-Administrator Steve Townsend. They began by having a drink of juice while listening to the instructions for the hunt. Around the garden were hidden enough foil-wrapped potatoes for all the children.

With older and younger children working together, all the potatoes were found and exchanged for chocolate goodies! After another drink and a biscuit, it was time to thank Steve and head back to school - pockets filled with chocolate treats!
