Tracking the changes

We can track spelling changes through the Oxford English Corpus. This is an enormous database which contains lots of different varieties of 21st-century English, from scientific journals, literary novels, and newspapers, to chat rooms, discussion boards, and blogs. Through the Corpus we can see new spellings and forms developing, especially in informal English, and check for evidence of these new forms being adopted into standard English.
