BP Logo
BP current logo
BP is one of the largest oil companies in the world, and it is also one of the most recognized. One of the reasons that BP is so well-known is the fact that it has powerful branding. Part of this effort is a strong logo that is easy to recognize. Most people are familiar with the BP logo, and there are many features of the logo that are easy to recognize. We’re not going to be looking at all of the logos that BP has used. The BP Company has been operation for nearly 100 years, and in that time, it has used many different logos. Instead, we’re going to look at some of the most recent logos that have been used by BP. This series illustrates how a logo can develop without losing the spirit of the original. We’re going to start with the logo that BP introduced in the 1940’s. Logo #1: Going Green This is the first logo that we are going to showcase, because it introduced several features that would define the BP logo until the present day. Most of the logos that appeared before this one were black and white. Previous logos also did not feature the crest outline around the BP initials. This was a strong logo that would set the stage for all the others to follow. However, it would only last for six years until it was replaced by a newer model with some sharper features. Logo #2: Sharper Detail This is the logo that followed the first rendition of the green and gold crest. It looks much like the first one, but there are several important differences. The first difference you may notice is the way the colors have changed between the first and second logo. The colors are now much brighter. The green is a lighter shade, and the gold color used for the letters has been replaced with a sun-colored yellow. The yellow color has also replaced the previous black border. Overall, the logo has a much sharper look than it did before. This logo lasted for about 10 years before it was replaced by the current logo that still represents BP today. Logo: #3: A New Look This is the current logo that is used by the BP Company. The crest is now missing from the logo, and the words BP no longer appear in the center. The letters are also now lowercase, possibly to illustrate the consistent shape between the “b” and the “p” from a design standpoint. There are some features which have stayed the same since the last two logos. The colors that were introduced back in the 1940’s are still present. The yellow is still present and very bright; the green now comes in several different (but still very bright) shades. This new BP logo is very successful. The look sets it apart from most other logos in the world, and the styling encourages a positive view of the company through its friendly look.
