Dr Corinne Capuano was appointed Director of Pacific Technical Support and WHO Representative to the South Pacific in October 2016. Previously, she was Director of the Office of the Regional Director for the Western Pacific, based in Manila, since March 2012. She was also Coordinator for External Relations and Communications for the Western Pacific Region.

Dr Capuano has been in the Western Pacific Region since 1998. She started her WHO career as a TB consultant at the WHO Office in Port Vila, Vanuatu, then worked as an epidemiologist and later as the Country Liaison Officer from 2002 to 2006.

In October 2006, Dr Capuano moved to the office of the WHO Representative for the South Pacific in Fiji to lead the Pacific Programme to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis.

In 2009, she was appointed the WHO Representative for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam, based in Malaysia, where she served until March 2012.

Before joining WHO, Dr Capuano worked as a private practitioner and a clinician in emergency departments. She later joined the French Ministry of Health as a Public Health Medical Inspector. Dr Capuano was also a member of Médecins du Monde, and between 1989 and 1991 together with her husband–a surgeon–she worked with this NGO at the rehabilitation of Calmette Hospital, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

She holds a Doctorate in Medicine with a specialization in Public Health. She also has a Masters in Political Science, a Masters in Medical Law and a Diploma in Tropical and Parasitic Diseases from the University of Paris.

Dr Capuano is married and has three children.
