Changing the way WHO is financed
As humanity’s most precious resource, health is priceless, and it requires our investment. The WHO, as the global guardian of public health, requires sufficient, predictable and flexible funding -- including from innovative financing models and diverse funding streams -- so that it can be agile in its work with partners to create health and well-being for all at all ages.
The financing campaign is transforming the way WHO is financed. It works to attract a wider donor base, more flexible funding and increased overall funding for a well-resourced WHO that drives global health leadership.
WHO has developed its first ever investment case with an ask of US$ 14.14 billion for 2019-2023. This is the amount WHO needs to deliver on its five-year strategy and its ambitious triple billion target: WHO will work to provide a billion more people with universal health coverage, protect a billion more people from health emergencies and bring a further billion people better health and well-being.
The next five years will determine if we can achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), presenting a unique opportunity for the WHO, governments and partners to drive progress towards SDG3 and the goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. Together we can realize a healthier, safer and more equitable world in which no-one is left behind.
