Double duty actions to address all forms of malnutrition: from evidence to programmes and policy

Launch of The Lancet Series on the Double Burden of Malnutrition

Background

A series of events is organized with the aim to bring attention to new knowledge on the double burden of malnutrition and the global risks of malnutrition in all its forms, which threaten the economic, social and environmental health of individuals, families, entire communities, countries and the planet. By contributing to the global dialogue on nutrition and efforts to address the double burden of malnutrition, this series of events intends to accelerate political commitment and advance the achievement of the SDGs, especially SDG 2 and SDG 3. During these events, new findings published in The Lancet Series on the Double Burden of Malnutrition will be presented.

 

The first of a series of events will take place in London, on 16 December 2019. At the event, hosted by the Centre for Food Policy at City, University of London, the World Health Organization and The Lancet will launch The Lancet Series on the Double Burden of Malnutrition.

The event will be webcast live and opened by Editor-in-Chief of The Lancet, Dr Richard Horton. The Director of the WHO Department of Nutrition for Health and Development, Dr Francesco Branca, will set the scene and renowned authors of the Series, Dr Lawrence Grummer-Strawn, Prof Jonathan Wells and Prof Corinna Hawkes, will present their findings. DFID Chief Scientific Advisor, Prof Charlotte Watts, will share her thoughts on what the new nutrition reality.means for development and nutrition policies. Dr Nadeem Hasan (DFID Health Advisor) will moderate an interactive panel discussion with nutrition experts, Anna Taylor (The Food Foundation), Johanna Ralston (WOF) and Emily Mates (ENN), on what the findings of the Series mean for global health, nutrition and sustainable development. Closing remarks will be delivered by Dr Horton.
