About UUPA UUPA has as its mission to serve the Unitarian Universalist Association and the community of polyamorous people within and outside the UUA by providing support, promoting education, and encouraging spiritual wholeness regarding polyamory. Mostly, this means offering education, literature and having conversations. As a service to the larger faith community, UUPA also welcomes inquiries from and conversation with any person, religious institution, or educational institution of any faith, as time and resources permit, concerning polyamory as it relates to religion, and faith. Who We Are We are UUs. We sing next to you in Sunday services and in choir lofts. We serve on church committees and teach religious education. We attend regional meetings and General Assemblies, where many of us serve as delegates from our congregations. Our faith is important to us. We are families. We raise children, cherish pets, and keep in touch with extended family. We have jobs, pay bills, and try to keep up with household chores. Our family structure may be a little different than most people expect, but otherwise, we are just like everybody else.    We are associated with the Unitarian Universalist Association as a Related Organization of the Association. UUPA is separate from the UUA and is independently organized and managed. Our next membership meeting is on Feb. 9, 2020. We are proud to note the UUA officially includes polyamorists in their membership guidelines. UU Polyamory email list In 1999, several UUs with an interest in polyamory created an email list called UUPoly. This list provided a place to talk about integrating our religion with our relationships, our faith with our families. Conversations on the UUPoly list led to the idea that we should form a national organization of poly UUs to serve as a resource to congregations, ministers, and individuals. Today, this list is called UU Polyamory, and it continues to offer an avenue to explore ideas and challenges around polyamory and faith. Definition UUPA defines polyamory as the philosophy and practice of loving or relating intimately to more than one other person at a time with honesty and integrity. UUPA advocates for any form of relationship or family structure -- whether monogamous or multi-partner -- which is characterized by free and responsible choice, mutual consent of all involved, and sincere adherence to personal philosophical values. Vision Our original vision was for Unitarian Universalism to become the first poly welcoming mainstream religious denomination. We believe that was accomplished by the change in the Non-discrimination Statement the UUA passed in 2014. UUPA Literature Polyamory Curriculum for Congregations and Religious Professionals This religious education curriculum is designed for congregations and religious professionals. The curriculum is available on CD as a package with its companion book, What Does Polyamory Look Like? for those who send a donation of $35 to UUPA. Survey on Polyamory at GA 2017 At the 2017 General Assembly a survey was taken by random people in the Exhibit hall. It showed a supportive attitude toward polyamory by a majority of the participants."
