The 11th IADR World Congress on Preventive Dentistry
The 11th World Congress on Preventive Dentistry (WCPD) took place from 3-6 October 2017 in New Delhi, India. The WCPD was organized jointly by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the World Health Organization (WHO). More than 200 people from 34 countries participated in the congress.
Tokyo Declaration on Dental care and oral health for healthy longevity
At the end of World Congress 2015, the Tokyo Declaration on Dental care and oral health for healthy longevity was adopted to call upon health policy-makers and professionals to significantly reduce the global disease burden, promote greater equity, and integrate oral health promotion into the NCD prevention and control and development agenda.

Fact sheet on oral health
Oral health is a key indicator of overall health, wellbeing and quality of life. WHO defines oral health as “a state of being free from chronic mouth and facial pain, oral and throat cancer, oral infection and sores, periodontal (gum) disease, tooth decay, tooth loss, and other diseases and disorders that limit an individual’s capacity in biting, chewing, smiling, speaking, and psychosocial wellbeing.”

The objectives of the WHO Global Oral Health Programme (ORH)
The programme have been reoriented according to the new strategy of disease prevention and promotion of health. Greater emphasis is put on developing global policies in oral health promotion and oral disease prevention, coordinated more effectively.
