The Weekday School is a progressive, play-based school on the Upper West Side of New York City, serving families with children ages two through five years old. Our diverse community fosters sharing, understanding, and respect while focusing on the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child. We celebrate each child’s individuality and are dedicated to teaching children to become confident learners, passionate explorers, and discerning risk-takers.
The Weekday School cherishes and respectfully embraces the diversity and uniqueness of each individual child within a safe, positive, and nurturing environment. We cultivate an understanding of each other and move beyond simple acceptance to the celebration of the rich dimensions of diversity reflected in our community and our city.
The Weekday School nurtures a strong sense of community and always welcomes families and friends into our classrooms to share traditions, experiences, and talents. Through active participation in the Parents Association, families provide leadership and assistance with both social and fundraising events. Partnerships with local community entities provide additional resources to enrich our curriculum and create a bridge between the school and the community in which the children live.
The Weekday School honors each child as a unique individual with the goal of fostering self-awareness and self-respect. This awareness leads to the development of each child’s sense of responsibility as part of a larger community. It is from this foundation that we strive to build a community of responsible and compassionate young citizens of the world.
