Feature: GPUs and HDR explained

What graphics card do I need for HDR and what PC games support it?

HDR on PC hasn't improved much in 2019. Despite there being more HDR gaming monitors than ever before, the very [block id="604469" title="Best gaming monitor"]s for HDR continue to be quite expensive compared to non-HDR monitors, and the situation around Windows 10 support for it is still a bit of a mess. However, provided you're willing to fight through all that, then the next step on your…

Black Ops 4 will soon add tanks and double jumps to Blackout

The Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 - Operation Dark Divide trailer is all sword fights, floaty crackly lightning folk and mechanical helmets that assemble around people's faces. Good. With the second Modern Warfare about to drench us all in pseudo-realistic oorah guff, I'm glad that Blops is mucking about with superheroes. I'm particularly glad they're adding the time-limited "Heavy Metal Heroes" event to Blackout,…

Games like Fortnite – the best battle royale games you can play right now

Fortnite: Battle Royale, I think it's fair to say, is the standout title of the decade-old battle royale game genre. Not since Minecraft have we seen a game enter the mainstream in this way - but that doesn't mean Fortnite is the only battle royale out there that's worth playing. We'll go over just a few of the very best battle royale games like Fortnite…

Celtic FC have signed a Call Of Duty esports team

I’m going to open this story with the strangest disclaimer you’ll ever read on RPS: as a young man who grew up in the Glasgowy part of the country, I was a supporter of Glasgow Rangers. Generally, this wouldn’t be a problem, but when you’re dealing with the Old Firm, well, they like to know. In my own defence, I started back when Davie Cooper…

FaZe defeated at Call Of Duty World League by apparent glitch

Fan favourite Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 esports team FaZe Clan’s World League run was halted last night as they took a 2-3 loss to Luminosity Gaming. But there's rumblings that they wuz robbed, after both teams completed their win-conditions near simultaneously. Though FaZe appeared to capture their control point a half-second before being eliminated by Luminosity, the game ruled in favour of the…

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 PvP heads up the new Humble Monthly

From the few rounds I spent with it pre-release, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4's battle royale mode - Blackout - was a lot of fun, speaking as someone not particularly into Battle Royales. Today, you can snag Treyarch's big-budget manshoot for $12 (roughly £9.12), along with the game's other PvP modes in the cut-down Battle Edition, heading up this month's Humble Monthly. While it…

Activision Blizzard prioritise profit over people, laying off around 800 employees

Not content with what Activision CEO Bobby Kotick referred to as “record results” in an earnings call yesterday, the World of Warcraft and Call of Duty publisher has begun plans to layoff 8% of its total employees. That’s around 800 people out of work, many of them speculated to be “among the company’s lowest earners”.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 will let you respawn in Blackout--providing at least one member of your squad is halfway decent, or lucky--in a new limited time mode that's joining the battle royale later today. 'Down But Not Out' is set to go live at 6pm GMT and will be squads-only. The new mode will allow players to respawn with each Collapse, as long…

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Battle Edition cuts the price but drops zombie co-op

It was surprising enough that Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 axed any kind of singleplayer campaign, but Treyarch have gone and cut the co-op Zombies mode, too, albeit optionally. The new cut-price Battle Edition of the game contains all the PvP modes (including Blackout, the popular, twitchy battle royale mode), and is available for £27 with plans to increase the price in January. It…

Cod Blopout unearths the Blightfather, buries the 9-Bang

If fighting other humans doesn't challenge you enough in Blackout, or you fancy risking death for loot and funsies, you can now take on the Blightfather in Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4's battle royale mode. This hulking, goo-spewing boss from the game's Zombies mode is back in Blopout for one week, hanging around the graveyard itching for a fight and offering big prizes if…

Cod Blops 4 will soon add microtransactions

A plague of microtransactions has already descended on PS4 players of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4, who get everything seven days before everyone else because they're better than us. While PC folk won't have the option to throw more money at Blops until next week, we do now know what Activision are charging. It's a lot, but outside of Zombies mode money can only…

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 review

CODBLOPS: *snarls* Person: I’d... I’d like to shoot some people, please. CODBLOPS: *spits* HOW? HOW would you like to shoot people? Person: Well PUBG: *coughs* Person: Um CSGO: *also coughs* Person: Overwatch: Hi! Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 reminds of an ugly, angry man who’s trying to sell me guns. It’s not that I don’t want to buy those guns, I just wish the…

Cod Blops 4 fiddles with Blackout player counts

How many boppers would Blackout ops rock if Cod Blops could rock lots? Well, that depends on the mode. Following the launch of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 last week, developers Treyarch are still fiddling with its flagship battle royale mode, Blackout, and yesterday tweaked playercounts. Four-player squads have gone down from the classic Plunkbut count of 100 players to 88, while the duo…

Treyarch are working on a fix for Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4’s emote peeking

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 may have its differences from its many predecessors, most notably its inclusion of Battle Royale mode Blackout, but it’s still a first-person shooter at its core. Except, players have been using emotes to activate a third-person view, giving them a good look around them and potentially an advantage over their opponents. Treyarch say they’re already working on a fix.

Tick tock it’s Cod o’clock, time to get Blopped

The falling of the leaves heralds the launch of a new Call Of Duty game, but things are different from the usual routine with Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4. Its launch overnight came a month earlier than usual, for starters, but most notably this Cod doesn't have a singleplayer campaign. Cod Blops 4 also jumps on the battle royale bandwagon with its 'Blackout' mode,…

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 devs on balancing Blackout battle royale mode

There's a new Call Of Duty around the corner. Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4 is out on October 12th, so I sat down with Treyarch's studio design director David Vonderhaar and Jason "Director of Zombies" Blundell to quiz them about the game's new battle royale mode, Blackout, why they've left regenerating health behind, and how they handled no longer making a singleplayer campaign mode.

Cod Blops 4 reducing timed exclusivity for post-launch content, but not removing it

Activision have announced that they'll stop being absolute gits brandishing birds akimbo at Call Of Duty's PC players, and settle for merely flicking a single V at us while blowing raspberries. After years of DLC being exclusive to one console or another for thirty days (hitting PC and the other after that absurd delay), they now say that post-launch content for Call Of Duty: Black…
