Fallout 76 Australian players will get refunds they were denied

ZeniMax, the parent company of Bethesda, will offer refunds on Fallout 76 to many Australian customers who were previously denied them. They'd previously said the people weren't entitled to refunds under ZeniMax rules, but Australian authorities piped up to point out that Australian laws meant yes, they were. This isn't a slam on Fallout 76, just another games company doing international business without understanding local…

Feature: Country roads will now be gravel, unless you have the tarmac upgrade for £1.99/month

Fallout 76 players have a decidedly mixed response to the Fallout 1st subscription

At the heart of Fallout 76, there’s always been friction between what people wanted it to be, and what it actually is. To begin with, this manifested as an apprehension over whether an online Fallout game was the right move for the series. Over time, it grew into other concerns about the game’s business model and Bethesda’s perceived mismanagement of the Atomic Shop. Now, Bethesda…

Bethesda acknowledge parts of Fallout 76’s subscription service are broken

Earlier this week Fallout 76 introduced a subscription service charging £12 a month or £100 a year for various things Bethesda shouldn't have, along with the more reasonable inclusion of private servers. It isn't reasonable to charge for the convenience of a box with infinite storage and a deployable fast travel tent. Even less so when some of these things do not seem to work.…

Pull up a stool in the player-made bars of Fallout 76

Despite living in the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse, Fallout players have never been short on places to drink. It makes sense, I guess. If your days are spent fighting off irradiated terrors, it stands to reason you’d want to go somewhere to let off steam. But Fallout 76 launched without NPCs. Nary a bartender with a friendly ear to be seen (at least not…

Fallout 76 launches private servers as part of premium membership

Surprise! Fallout 76 now has a premium membership service selling the ability to host private servers as well as access to a number of items with clear in-game benefits. Named Fallout 1st, the service costs £12 per month or £100 for a whole year in one go. It's little surprise that hosting private servers costs cash but making them part of a service also selling…

Fallout 76 delays Wastelanders, but private servers arrive next week

Fallout 76's long-awaited flesh-and-blood NPCs won't be arrive in West Virginia this year. Bethesda has delayed the free Wastelanders update into early 2020, leaving players alone in the post-apocalypse with each other for a few months longer. But there's a silver lining to this mushroom cloud. Private Worlds finally arrive in Fallout 76 next week, giving survivors the option for some much-needed permanence.

Fallout 76 will be getting a public test server and perk loadouts in 2020

I can’t believe it’s been ten months since I was camped in Fallout 76’s wrecked Appalachia for the winter. I had a good time with ‘76, and I would probably return if something big enough happened to warrant a revisit. So it's nice to know that Bethesda are still stirring the coals of the game - they've announced a public test server is coming next…

20,000 Fallout 76 power armour helmets are being recalled due to health risk

Just as it seemed like Bethesda had sorted their issues with nylon collector's bags, it turns out they've gone and sold a health hazard disguised as a Fallout 76 helmet. Manufacturer Chronicle has issued a recall of an estimasted 20,000 T-51b Power Armor collectible helmets sold by US retailer GameStop over a risk of mold exposure.

The Fallout 76 players who started an art gallery in the wasteland

As it turns out, there are some surprises when exploring Appalachia, even 25 years after being annihilated by nuclear bombs. Sometimes you’ll come across a creature you thought was only a myth, but turns out to be an alien from another galaxy. Or maybe you’ll uncover a cult that worships a local legend. What you might not expect to find is a group of vault…

Feature: Power plants

Fallout 76’s new plant-infested Vault 94 is a bolthole for masochists

Fallout 76 is a weird beast. It’s mired in bugs and poor decisions, but somehow manages to birth funny player stories, like the people role-playing as NPCs, or the tale of those who have invented a lethal game show. This is why I’ve found myself dedicating over 100 hours to the multiplayer shooter and why I leapt at the chance to explore the new Vault…

Fallout 76’s first raid unlocks, welcoming you to a greenhouse of terror

The heavy doors of post-apocalyptic West Virginia are finally chu-chunking open, like rusty flowers waking up to the nuclear spring. Vault 94 has joined Fallout 76’s titular vault, opening itself to the oddball Appalachians and asking them to investigate what went wrong down there in the plant-choked bunker.

Bethesda detail updates coming to Fallout 76, including Vault raids and Wastelanders

Bethesda have detailed many changes coming to Fallout 76 at their QuakeCon panel, giving some new insights into Vault raids, and the NPC-driven expansion Wastelanders, and a new map coming to battle royale mode Nuclear Winter, as well as a slew of smaller developments.

Fallout 76 extends Nuclear Winter testing

After launching Fallout 76's new battle royale mode into a short testing phase during the E3 hubbub, Bethesda have now said they're extending that. Originally due to end today, the "pre-beta sneak peek" of Nuclear Winter will now run indefinitely, receiving updates along the way. Which sounds like a soft launch to me. Particularly given that battle royale is an FPS genre rooted in early…

Feature: Fun with no substance

Nuclear Winter is the logical thematic conclusion to Bethesda’s Fallouts

Bethesda announced at E3 this week that Fallout 76 would be getting a battle royale mode, called Nuclear Winter, with a “sneak peek” already available to play. I tried it. I had a truly horrible experience with a nuke. And I concluded that this is just what Bethesda Fallouts are now: nihilistic romps through destroyed wastelands that care little for examining the societies that created…

E3 2019 games – every game confirmed

They just keep coming don't they? A lot of games were announced at E3 2019, things that we didn't know about, as well as stuff that's previously announced, or expansions to already released games. Now, to the casual outsider, what we're doing might seem absolutely nuts, but we thought we'd put together an alphabetical list of all the PC games that have been confirmed to…

Fallout 76 adding human NPCs and of course a battle royale mode

Bethesda announced tonight that they're bringing two revolutionary new features to Fallout 76: human NPCs and a battle royale mode. Far out, man. Where do they get these ideas? Wild, just wild. Give me some of what they're on, right? Ha ha! They're sticking with their multiplayer survival sandbox after its shonky launch, mind, and judging by the wild hooting from the audience of industry…

Fallout 76 adds player-run storefronts next week

As rough as its launch may have been, Fallout 76 remains a very popular game, with a large, dedicated and increasingly moneyed and geared player-base. Next week's big update for the game, due on May 7th, is bringing player-run stores to Appalachia, allowing you to set up automated vending systems for other players to buy your excess junk and ammo from, while siphoning off 10%…

Bethesda return to Steam with Rage 2, Doom Eternal and Fallout 76

Bethesda are backing down from plans to make Rage 2 and other upcoming games exclusive to their own launcher, announcing today via Twitter that they'll all be sold on Steam. Confirmed headed back to Valve's storefront is Rage 2, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, VR spinoff Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot and (most importantly) Doom Eternal. The move will be partially retroactive as well, with Fallout 76 confirmed for a Steam release…
