Research at the University of Derby

At the University of Derby, we are particularly passionate about our research. It has helped to improve the lives of people locally, nationally and internationally.

Passion and pride

We are proud of our researchers at the University of Derby. We use our research to inspire and inform our students and we often work with collaborators from partner institutions and with industry.

We publish our research so that everyone can share our knowledge and it is often applied to support the sectors that drive national economic growth, and to support effective policy-making and governance.

Our researchers have helped bring about more accurate predictions of climate change, a better quality of life for gynaecological cancer patients, impartial career guidance for young people in schools, some spectacular decorative architecture involving 3D printing techniques, and novel processes to create the perfect joints in metals.

And our researchers support the creation of further knowledge through their work with our postgraduate research student community. These pages provide an introduction to our research, our latest research news, research events and our University of Derby researchers. Please get in touch - we’d love to connect with you.

Our research strategy

The concept of a research ecosystem lies at the heart of our research strategy. At the University of Derby, our academics are the lifeblood of our research practice and we support and celebrate them. We link our researchers with our stakeholders in the wider community, and our student communities, allowing us to add value to research that brings real and lasting impact.

The University's research strategy sets out our ambitions and how we propose to realise them. We will:

Our research strategy is constructed around our three research themes that help us focus on the challenges we are all facing in the world today:

By focusing on these themes, we are reinvigorating our research infrastructure to drive research developments and assure the integrity and robustness of our research.
