Thank you for inquiring about legal representation at the SMU Dedman School of Law Legal Clinics. The Clinics provides legal services to individuals who cannot otherwise afford to retain private counsel. The Civil/Consumer Clinic participates in a help desk for self-represented litigants. Fall 2019 dates TBD. The VanSickle Family Law Clinic also participates several times a semester in a Self-Help Desk. Click here for the dates of the VanSickle Family Law Pro Se Clinic.

Each Clinic has its own application procedures and application. Please see information below for the Clinics that have specific application procedures or visit the Clinic links to the right.

Civil/Consumer Clinic:  The Civil/Consumer Clinic has reached capacity for the Fall 2019 term and is no longer accepting applications. 

Federal Taxpayers Clinic: Taxpayers and other individuals interested in obtaining information about the Tax Clinic’s services or in scheduling an initial consultation with student attorneys should call 214-768-8299. The Tax Clinic is open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, and is located in the lower level of Storey Hall on the SMU campus at 3315 Daniel, Dallas, Texas.

Small Business Clinic and Trademark Clinic:  Prospective clients should apply for representation by completing an initial application. This is the first step in the Clinic’s consideration of whether or not to accept the client.  The completed application should be scanned and emailed to gzapata@smu.edu or faxed to 214-768-1760 or mailed to SMU Dedman School of Law, Small Business and Trademark Clinic, P.O. Box 750116, Dallas, TX  75275-0116.
