Degree Programs

The Dedman School of Law offers the following degree programs:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree

SMU Dedman School of Law offers a three-year, Full-time J.D. Program.  Approximately 230 students are enrolled in entering full-time classes.  All entering law students must begin during the fall semester in August.

Joint degrees

Students with interdisciplinary interests in business or economics may elect to pursue joint degrees through the J.D./M.B.A. program or the J.D./M.A. in Economics.

Graduate  (LL.M. or Master of Laws and S.J.D. or Doctor of Juridical Science) degrees

The Law School offers graduate degree programs for both U.S. and foreign trained lawyers. Applicants for admission to the LL.M. in Taxation Program or the LL.M. (General) Program must have earned a J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school.

The LL.M. degree for Foreign Law School Graduates Program one- year, full-time program for students who hold a basic law degree from a recognized foreign law school. The S.J.D. (Doctor of Juridical Science) is the highest post-graduate degree offered by the Dedman School of Law and is intended for highly qualified candidates seeking a legal academic career or a high level, policy-oriented governmental or inter-governmental position.
