WHO statement on attacks on health facilities in north west Syria
1 September 2019 Cairo, Egypt -- WHO is gravely concerned about reported attacks on seven health care facilities in the north west of Syria from 28-30 August 2019. Attacks on four facilities have been verified according to WHO reporting standards, and three are in process of verification.
Libya: Five medical staff dead in latest attack on health facilities in Tripoli
28 July 2019 Tripoli – The World Health Organization strongly condemns yesterday’s attack on Az Zawiyah Field Hospital in the south of Tripoli. Five health workers were killed and eight were injured in the attack. The hospital was damaged and forced to suspend its services.
Statement by Regional Director Dr Ahmed Al Mandhari on attacks on health care in the Eastern Mediterranean
4 July 2019 Cairo – The time has come to speak out once more about attacks on health care in WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Region.
"Since the beginning of 2019, our Region has witnessed an average of more than one attack every day: hundreds of health workers have been killed, injured or assaulted, hospitals have been damaged and destroyed, and ambulances have been forced out of service."

In 2018 and 2019, there have been more reports relating direct targeting of health care facilities and healthcare workers by all parties of the conflicts. As a consequence, more people than ever are now denied access to basic health services.

Taking risks to provide care in a conflict zone
22 May 2019 -- Charles Lwanga-Kikwaya is one of many health workers operating in a conflict zone. On New Year’s Day, his team was attacked at an Ebola vaccination point in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Health attacks continue during Gaza’s Great March of Return
20 May 2019 – Mohamed, a 24-year-old first responder, was injured during demonstrations in Khan Younis, Gaza, on Friday 10 March. He had seen a child of approximately 12 years injured from gas inhalation near the Gaza fence, and had gone forward to treat him and bring him to the nearby medical point of the Ministry of Health.
