Quirky Crimes in the Capital City

Forest Acres

Forest Drive: A man was arrested and charged with domestic violence after the woman accusing him of assaulting her called police to the motel they had been living at 1 a.m. Thursday. When officers arrived, the 39-year-old woman told them when she walked into the couples’ room, her 38-year-old boyfriend yelled at her, asking her where she had been. She said before she could answer the man “punched” her “in the mouth” and threw her to the ground. The man denied hitting the woman and told officers they had been in “an intimate” relationship for almost two years and were now “living at the motel together.” Since the woman’s injuries matched her story and the man couldn’t explain how else the woman got the bruises, the man was charged with domestic violence and taken to jail.

Trenholm Road: Police were summoned to a home at 11 a.m. Wednesday after a woman said her ex-husband refused to relinquish the iPad she had purchased for their daughter. The woman said when she went to the girl’s father’s house to pick her up, the father told her he had walked in on the girl and startled her as she was on the machine and she quickly shut it down. The father demanded to know what the girl was looking at but she refused to tell him and began screaming and crying. When the mother arrived the father said he wanted to know if their daughter was “using the iPad responsibly” and he would gladly give it back if the daughter showed him what she had been doing. If not, he was keeping it. The mother became upset and told the father and the officers she wasn’t leaving until she got the iPad, but the officers told her she would have to take the matter to a civil claims court. When she finally agreed to leave, her car wouldn’t start and she refused help from both her ex-husband and the officers. She told them she would call a friend for help.
