'It 2' Repeats at #1, 'Hustlers' Exceeds Expectations & 'The Goldfinch' Flies into a Wall

'It 2' Repeats at #1, 'Hustlers' Exceeds Expectations & 'The Goldfinch' Flies into a Wall
It was a mixed bag of a weekend for Warner Bros. which saw It: Chapter Two deliver a strong hold and retain the weekend's #1 spot at the box office, but their new release, The Goldfinch, bombed, delivering one of the worst openings ever for a wide release. Alternatively, STXfilms's Hustlers exploded out of the gates with the studio's largest opening in its five year history as well as star Jennifer Lopez's largest live-action opening of all-time. With an estimated $40.7 million, WB and New Line's It: Chapter Two topped the weekend for the second week in a row, dipping just -55% compared to its opening weekend and pushing the film's domestic cume over $153 million after ten days in release. In addition to that, the horror sequel added another $47 million internationally this weekend for a global tally that now stands at $323.3 million. That total includes a $4.7 million #1 opening in France while

Joe Russo: Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ Split From McU Is a ‘Tragic Mistake’
Avengers: Endgame” co-director Joe Russo isn’t surprised that Sony is pulling Spider-Man out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he thinks their decision to go without Marvel Studios and its prodigious head Kevin Feige is a bad move.

“I will say, stepping back and trying to be objective as possible, that I think it’s a tragic mistake on Sony’s part to think that they can replicate Kevin’s penchant for telling incredible stories and the amazing success he has had over the years. I think it’s a big mistake.”

In an interview with The Toronto Sun, Russo and his brother Anthony spoke about the split and their plans to follow-up the biggest box office hit of all time with a new studio that will produce smaller movies. The new studio, Agbo, was founded with “Avengers” co-writer Stephen McFeely and launched at Toronto last week with “Mosul,

How did “Guns Akimbo” director and writer Jason Lei Howden convince Daniel Radcliffe to play a character with guns nailed to his hands? Easy, he sent him the script.

Radcliffe joined Howden and “Ready or Not’s” breakout star Samara Weaving in the Variety’s Toronto Film Festival studio, presented by AT&T to talk the limits of acting with weapons attached to your hands, snorting vitamin C and the worst parts of the internet.

When the morbid streaming service turns its eye on Radcliffie’s mild-mannered, troll-hating desk jockey, Miles, things get even more violent. His character is kidnapped, knocked out and revived with guns literally bolted to his hands. Now stuck inside this real-life, video game hell, he must fight or die.

Taika Waititi’s ‘Jojo Rabbit’ Wins Top Prize at Toronto Film Festival Awards

Taika Waititi’s ‘Jojo Rabbit’ Wins Top Prize at Toronto Film Festival Awards
Taika Waititi’s “Jojo Rabbit” has won the coveted People’s Choice Award at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

The honor positions the film for a potential Oscar run and bolsters its awards chances. That’s good news for Fox Searchlight, which must have been disappointed by the lackluster critical reception for the movie, a dark comedy set in the waning days of the Nazi Empire. Reviewers faulted the picture for delivering satire without the necessary sting, generally agreeing that “Jojo Rabbit” had stumbled out of the gate.

That no longer appears to be the case. Toronto’s top prize has uncanny predictive powers when it comes to selecting future Oscar winners. Last year’s winner, “Green Book,” went on to capture the Academy Award for Best Picture. Previous victors include “La La Land,” “Room,” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” and “The Imitation Game,” all of which went

'All This Victory' ('Jeedar El Sot'): Film Review | Venice 2019
A modest home with a strategic view of southern Lebanon is invaded by Israeli soldiers during the 2006 Lebanon War in the claustrophobic, inspired-by-real-events drama All This Victory (Jeedar El Sot). What the Israelis on the top floor don’t realize is that several Lebanese locals are huddled together on the first floor, hoping to never be noticed. The upstairs-downstairs dynamic in an Arab-Irsaeli context is of course already familiar from superior works such as Saverio Costanzo’s Locarno-winning debut, Private, in which Israeli soldiers occupied the second floor of a Palestinian home. The major difference here is that the motley ...
