History
On November 19, 1963, Elders Hyrum M. Smith and Gerald E. Malmrose of the Franco-Belgian Mission went into the city of Luxembourg to help new missionaries there. They were there four days and left several missionaries in Luxembourg to get started in their labors.
A branch (a small congregation) was formed in the mid 1960s, and in 1965 Sunday meetings were conducted in the Hotel Kons. Attendance varied from one to three members and six missionaries. The branch remained small and struggled until it was discontinued in 1971.
In late 1989 more than 1,000 people from 23 countries attended a nine-day exhibition titled "The Origin of Man" at the Luxembourg municipal hall. The event was hosted by area Church members and full-time missionaries. Of the 1,000 guests, nearly 200 signed the visitors book, leading to the placement of 190 copies of the Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. In about June 1994, Luxembourg became part of the newly created Metz France District, which was divided from the Nancy France Stake (diocese).
