The Spanish American War was instrumental in shaping the U.S. Navy we know today. One of the catalysts for the conflict was the mysterious sinking of USS Maine (ACR 1). Among the relics salvaged from the ship for preservation is a 6-inch, 30 caliber gun.

awesome site! My relatives that are not Navy but love history enjoy when I share the day in Naval History.
This Facebook site has awesome history of the US Navy posted on a regular basis, I love that aspect ...because I myself served as a civilian DOD worker for the Navy for over 35 years. However in the two years that I have been a follower of NHHC, I have noticed on at least 4 occasions that a hater of Western religion has made disparaging remarks without any cause other than they are Islamic Extremists and hate Americans. The trouble is that NHHC fails to remove them in a timely manner. They stay on there for days, it's like no ones at home. Why aren't the ugly comments removed ? Why aren't the offenders blocked from reposting ? Who's in charge ? No way to administer a group page... See More
