Commemoration Resources: National Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Day
Purpose
On March 29 we honor all those who answered our Nation's call to duty in Vietnam. With conviction, our Nation pledges our enduring respect, our continuing care, and our everlasting commitment to all Vietnam Veterans.
“I call upon all Americans to offer each of our Vietnam veterans and their families a thank you on behalf of the Nation, both privately and during public ceremonies and programs across our country.”
—Presidential proclamation dated 10 November 2017
Goal
Execute a Navy-wide, year-long campaign that recognizes the services of U.S. Navy Vietnam veterans and informs the American public about their service, sacrifice, and dedication to our country.
Key Messages
Just as those who came before them and those who serve today, our Navy Vietnam War veterans served their country with honor, courage, and commitment.
Every facet of the Navy we know today took part in the Vietnam War effort. Sailors were on the sea, along the rivers, coastal waters, in the air, and on land in support of ongoing operations.
Today, our bilateral relationship with Vietnam demonstrates our support for a strong, prosperous, and independent Vietnam. Through hard work and mutual respect, we are now close partners.
