Uniting a Nation through song.

Our national anthem Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika was named best national anthem in the world by The Economist. It won this award because of its inclusivity and ability to bring people together.

Our anthem, which pieces together lyrics in Afrikaans‚ English‚ Xhosa‚ Zulu and Sesotho, forms an eponymous poem originally written as a prayer by late poet Enoch Sontonga and parts of South Africa's former anthem’s, "Die Stem", inclusion was hailed as "an act of musical healing".

Over the last few months, South Africans from all corners of the country submitted their rendition of the national anthem to the Anthem Project. Submissions are now officially closed, but you can still play your part in uniting our nation through song, by voting for your favourite Anthem video here
