The McCoy Project is a joint initiative between the University of Melbourne and Museum Victoria. It fosters innovative and high impact research projects that leverage the strengths of the two partners.
The University of Melbourne and Museum Victoria have a history of collaboration that stretches back to the mid-1850s. At the heart of this history is the remarkable and controversial Sir Frederick McCoy (1823–1899): polymath, professor, museum builder and the project’s namesake.
The aims of the McCoy project are to:
- Create an environment where scholarship based on Museum Victoria’s collections can flourish.
- Develop and deliver quality collaborative projects that will have significant impact.
- Bring scholars from different disciplines to work together to develop innovative and inspiring projects.
- Develop the next generation of research communicators.
Participants who share common interests are drawn from the University of Melbourne and Museum Victoria to take part in the McCoy Project.
Funding
The McCoy Seed Fund is a joint fund comprising contributions from both the University of Melbourne and Museum Victoria to support the development of collaborative research projects between Museum Victoria and the University of Melbourne.
