Open Access: NHMRC and ARC Requirements
Information for Researchers
The NHMRC and ARC want to ensure that the findings of publicly funded research are made available to the general public as soon as possible. The University Library has a fully functioning Digital Repository where academics can deposit research outputs to meet NHMRC and ARC requirements.
Full details of Open Access policies and processes can be found on the 'open access compliance program' blog.
Why we collect this data
The University of Melbourne collects data on research outputs published by staff and students of the University. This data provides the University with valuable information on the research activity of its staff and students and is used:
- To populate Find an Expert, the University's public Researcher Profile.
- To inform academic performance review and strategic development
- In government submissions such as the Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) initiative.
- To make research outputs publicly available via the open access repository Minerva Access.
- To enable compliance with ARC and NHMRC Open Access policies
Types of Research Outputs
The Research Outputs Classification Guidelines guidelines set out the criteria for the classification categories for research outputs and the evidence requirements for each classification type.
RESEARCHER PROJECT DASHBOARD
The Researcher Project Dashboard provides up-to-date financial, workforce and publication information about Research Projects, to support Chief Investigators and research support staff in managing their projects.
Coding your research
Projects and research should be classified with both FOR and SEO codes. It is vital that you use the six digit codes that designate the most specific subject descriptions within the classification schemes. For SEO codes this is the 'class' level and with FOR the 'subject' level.
