Cape Town - An abandoned luxury Jeep parked at a fast food outlet in Sea Point in April, which was discovered with two guns, ammunition and tactical jackets in it has led to the arrest of a suspect on Monday.
The arrest happened as investigations into underworld activities in the Western Cape are heating up.
News24 understands that in April, when investigations surrounding the abandoned Jeep began, a new underworld faction was said to have started forcefully taking over nightclub security from a more established faction.
On Monday this week Matthew Broderick Breet, 27, was arrested for allegedly being in possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.
On Tuesday he was granted bail of R10 000 in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court.

'Suspicious group'
Western Cape Hawks spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha said: "Breet has been a person of interest after an enquiry docket was registered during April 2017."
This docket, News24 understands, had to do with an operation conducted during April.
During that incident, members of the Hawks' Firearms Bureau Unit, crime intelligence and police had reacted on information about a "suspicious group" that was gathered near a well-known food chain store in Sea Point.
News24 understands that based on information from other sources, this gathering had to do with a grouping planning to intimidate club owners in the city centre and surrounds.
Ramovha said when police had arrived at the fast food outlet in Sea Point they noticed the black Jeep with no registration plates.
The owner of the car was not present at the time.
Ramovha said officers had searched the vehicle and found a handgun, a shotgun with various rounds of ammunition, a bulletproof jacket and two tactical jackets.
They also found a cellphone, a blue light and a wallet with cash and identity document.
"Further investigations led the investigating team to Breet and a warrant of arrest was subsequently authorised resulting in his arrest," Ramovha said.
Breet is expected back in the dock in October.
