The party who occupies third position after these 2019 elections will determine the future of South Africa. Third place identifies the kingmakers who decide the coalitions at national, provincial and municipal levels.
Will it be an EFF + ANC two-thirds-majority or a DA + Every-Other-Party coalition in an attempt to unseat the ANC?
Let us review the facts.
The current national standing as of the 2014 national elections is as follows; (2009 elections in brackets)
ANC - 11,43 million votes - 62.15% [249/400 seats] (a decrease of 3.7%)
DA - 4,09 million votes - 22.23% [89/400 seats] (an increase of 5.5%)
EFF - 1,16 million votes - 6.35% [25/400 seats] (did not exist in 2009)
All indications and trends show that the ANC will achieve around 56%, a decrease of around 6% of the total - their biggest drop since '94. But still, a majority win.
So, the real threat lies in an ANC/EFF two-thirds-majority coalition at national. A coalition which will allow an amendment to the Bill of Rights in our Constitution, without a vote, to enable the removal of property rights - a policy they both promote.
A two-thirds-majority coalition which will ensure the end our democracy.
A wise voter would recognise this threat and realise that unfortunately, the DA who will remain in second place, is powerless to prevent the damaging coalition. The realistic solution to protect our democracy is to knock the EFF down from third by moving a trustworthy party (or coalition) higher up the ranking while the DA retains a sensible second.
Please South Africans, realise the real threat and don’t just follow like sheep. In this 2019 election, a vote for a smaller party is an extremely important vote which might just Save South Africa.
If you were planning to not vote as "it's not going to make any difference", think again. Your small vote will make a massive impact in preventing a two-thirds-majority. Choose wisely.
