April 5, 2019
PG-13
Action, Adventure, Fantasy

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson's case, by shouting out one word - SHAZAM! - this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult superhero Shazam.

The film was officially confirmed in 2014 when Warner Bros. announced an entire slate of DC films. Shazam is part of the DC Extended Universe franchise, though it's been noted connections with other installments will be minimal. The plan originally called for Dwayne Johnson to portray Black Adam, but he instead is going to headline his own solo film. In 2017, the Shazam creative team fell into place, with David F. Sandberg directing and Zachary Levi starring. Production started in January 2018 and wrapped in May of that year.

Shazam, previously known as Captain Marvel, made his comics debut in Whiz Comics #2 in 1940.

Not Yet Rated
Action, Sci-Fi

An adaptation of the New Mutants comic books, this X-Men cinematic universe installment follows five new mutants who are held in a secret facility against their will. Together, they must fight the dangers of their powers and deal with their troubled pasts, if they are to save themselves.

A new breed of X-Men heroes will make their debut on the big screen soon with the movie adaptation of The New Mutants. The film will follow the story of five young mutants who are kept in a secret facility just as they are discovering their abilities. They will have to work together to free themselves, while battling conflicts among themselves and within themselves.

The movie is set to premiere in April 2018 and will feature mutants Magik/Illyana Rasputin (Anya Taylor-Joy), Wolfsbane/Rahne Sinclair (Maisie Williams), Cannonball/Sam Guthrie (Charlie Heaton), Sunspot/Roberta da Costa (Henry Zaga), Mirage/Danielle Monstar (Blu Hunt) and Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga).

Director Josh Boone himself wrote co-wrote the screenplay with his friend Knate Lee. They are both fans of the comic series. They started working on the film concept right after Boone finished working on his blockbuster film, The Fault in Our Stars. After creating a comic book inspired by Chris Claremont’s work, they presented their idea for a trilogy to X-Men producer Simon Kinberg. In May 2015, Fox inked a deal with Boone to direct the standalone X-Men films spinoff based on the screenplay they made.

Filming for The New Mutants started on July 10, 2017 under the working title Growing Pains, in Boston. It is revealed that the film will have a full-fledged horror movie style, which is unlike previous X-Men films. Boone further revealed that there will be no costumes and no super-villains. Instead, the lead characters are going up against a psychic monster known as the Demon Bear who is connected to Mirage.

Filming wrapped up in September with the director and the cast posting photos of the milestone in their social media accounts.

Hellboy (2019)

April 12, 2019
R
Action, Adventure, Fantasy

Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.

Hellboy is a comic book character created by Mignolia, who made his first appearance in 1993's San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2 before receiving a regularly published series published by Dark Horse. His powers include superhuman strength, high levels of endurance, resistance to injury, and a healing factor that makes him immune to all diseases. Hellboy can also understand ancient languages and has a utility belt with numerous tools and weapons. He ages differently from humans, with most stories portraying him between 6 and 10 human years old.

Guillermo del Toro originally brought Hellboy to the big screen with Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army starring Ron Perlman as the titular hero, which were released in 2004 and 2008, respectively. While both received positive reviews, they had underwhelming performances at the box office, hurting the chances of a third installment ever being made. After years of speculation and hope from fans, del Toro finally put an end to the talks by saying a Hellboy 3 (which would have been the biggest of the trilogy) wasn't going to happen. This opened the door for a cinematic reboot, which features Stranger Things' David Harbour as Hellboy.
