‘Star Wars’ Composer John Williams to Quit Franchise After Episode IX
John Williams says that “Star Wars: Episode IX” will be the last movie in the franchise he will score. “We know J.J. Abrams is preparing one now that I will hopefully do next year for him,” Williams said on radio station Kusc. “I look forward it. It will round out a series of nine, that will be quite enough for me.”

Williams has scored eight “Star Wars” films to date: “Star Wars,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” “Return of the Jedi,” “Phantom Menace,” “Attack of the Clones,” “Revenge of the Sith,” “The Force Awakens” and “The Last Jedi.”

Spoilers: Rian Johnson on a certain Star Wars: The Last Jedi character using Force powers

Warning: Spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi follow…

One of the complaints that fans have levelled at Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi is General Leia’s use of Force powers in order to save herself during one of the movie’s many space battles. Chatting with EW, Rian Johnson himself took the time to explains his reasoning for including the scene:

“She kept asking, ‘Leia’s a Skywalker, Luke gave her this speech in Jedi and told her basically, ‘You have this potential, too.’ It seemed to me it would be a really emotionally impactful thing to see her use it. I liked the idea it would be an instinctual thing. This would be more like stories you hear about parents of toddlers who get caught under cars and they get Hulk strength and lift the car up. It would be something in these

11 Moments in The Last Jedi We Have No Idea How to Explain

11 Moments in The Last Jedi We Have No Idea How to Explain
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will probably go down in history as the most divisive Star Wars movie ever made. Some fans love it and others hate it more than words can describe, going as far as to burn their Star Wars merchandise. However, it has been given some of the same criticisms that The Empire Strikes Back received back in the day, and we all know how high that movie is held in regard to the franchise. The Last Jedi will more than likely see the same fate, as it has a lot to digest while taking some giant left turns. That being said, there are still quite a few things that we cannot explain about Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi.

How did Rey learn the force so quickly?

Okay, so this mystery is still unclear even after The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Rey is a nobody and a loner,

Movies to Show My Son: ‘Star Wars’

Welcome to another installment of Movies to Show My Son. This is the blog series where I discuss movies I can’t wait to show my son in the future. I’ll be covering my own personal experience with the movie, movie and life lessons I hope he will learn, and lastly my concerns about showing said film. This week’s film is Star Wars.

My Memories:

I know many can point to the exact moment they sat down and saw Star Wars for the first time. They can speak to it as the ultimate religious experience where they transcended their physical forms to become one with the force. For me, I cannot recall the first time I saw Star Wars, or if going in I knew about who Luke’s dad was or if I was ever properly prepared for what I was about to witness. Of course, I watched it,

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’: How Rian Johnson and the VFX Team Created the Porgs, Snoke, and More
For his first time out with the “Star Wars” universe, Rian Johnson populated “The Last Jedi” with a slew of new and old friends and foes, including several creature standouts: the adorable Porgs, the elegant Vulptices, the majestic Falthiers, the sinister Snoke, and the return of Master Yoda.

“To the extent that I deal with visual effects, since I don’t have the technical know how, it’s on the design side,” Johnson said. “And I like simplicity of design. You don’t ever want the audience using unnecessary brain power figuring out what they’re looking at. So many of our conversations about the design stuff weren’t about making it look cool, they’re always going to make it look cool [at Industrial Light & Magic]. It was about knowing what we’re looking at.”

Rian Johnson Defends The Use Of Humour In Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Now that Star Wars: The Last Jedi has finally arrived in theatres, the inevitable post-mortem has begun. Such is the lot of the Star Wars franchise – each new installment is accompanied by such hype and expectation that anything other than a perfect home run attracts a great deal of analysis as to why that perfection was not achieved for everybody. With The Force Awakens, the criticism was that it was too similar to A New Hope. And with The Last Jedi, apparently some are unhappy that it’s too different.

One of the causes of this upset seems to be the humour in the script, written by director Rian Johnson, who’s been discussing his choice to use humour in the film in a post-release interview with Vanity Fair.

“That was something that was really, really important to me. That’s part of what I enjoy in movies. It’s

Star Wars: The Last Jedi movie review: a great disturbance in the Force

MaryAnn’s quick take… Upends expectations, demythologizes the mythos, and takes an iconic series in a bold new direction with a story full of humor, courage, and dazzling imagery. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m a huge Star Wars fan

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

This is not going to go the way you think,” Luke Skywalker says to… well, someone who needs to hear it. Someone whose arrogance is borne of shortsightedness and narrow expectations. And this is also Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s word of warning to the audience. To us. This is the Star Wars movie, after all, from writer-director Rian Johnson, the guy who gave us The Brothers Bloom, a tricksy movie about con artists that knows we go into a movie about con artists with certain assumptions about what we’re about to see.

‘The Last Jedi’ Opens to $220 Million, No Matter What Disappointed Fanboys Say
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” lived up to its very high expectations with a domestic weekend gross of $220 million. Foreign territories (with China not yet opened) added another $450 million to the total so far — a strong number, to state the obvious, at anytime, even more so for the pre-Christmas date.

This is a decided improvement over last year’s franchise sidebar “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” which opened to $157 million, and only 15 percent below what “The Force Awakens” did two years ago. The return of the series opened to almost unprecedented interest and demand.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Divides Fans: An ‘A’ CinemaScore, and a Negative Rotten Tomatoes User Grade
Star Wars: The Last Jedi” may be one of the most critically acclaimed entries in the franchise (IndieWire gave it an A- and called it it the most satisfying “Star Wars” film in decades), but it’s passionately dividing fans in a way most “Star Wars” films don’t. Unlike the universally beloved reception to “The Force Awakens,” “The Last Jedi” isn’t every fan’s up of tea.

But while the Rotten Tomatoes user score indicates a more-negative fan response, the IMDb score is currently at 8.0 (even with “The Force Awakens”) and received an ‘A

A Letter To Rian Johnson

It feels a little bit like Christmas morning around the house this morning, even though we’ve still got a week and change to go before the actual day, and that’s undoubtedly because all the women here are rousing themselves a bit early to get ready for what amounts to Christmas 2017, Hollywood style. (The cats have been up for some time already, and they too are very excited, but you know, that’s just their way.) You see, in a couple hours we’re all piling into the car and making the pilgrimage up the hill to Universal City to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi. When it comes to buying advance tickets for a big movie for the whole family to see together my dear wife knows no restraints, and if the movie is prefixed with the words “Star Wars,” then all bets are most assuredly off.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi: the Porgs, the Force and the future - discuss with spoilers

It gave us new powers, abundant alien creatures and a triumphant last hurrah for Luke Skywalker, but did Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII live up to the hype?

•Warning: this article contains spoilers

Fan theorists were certain that Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi would be to The Empire Strikes Back what Jj Abrams’ The Force Awakens was to the original Star Wars, a movie full of Jedi training sessions on remote planets, rebel backs against the wall and darkling, curveball plot twists. In the end that was only part of the story, for this was a movie that gave us, in the words of Luke Skywalker in one of its earliest trailers, “so much more”. New Force powers, abundant alien creatures like nothing we’ve seen before, and a complex, yet satisfying return for the galaxy’s greatest hero.

Ever since Star Wars: The Force Awakens concluded, fans have been dying to see what happens next in the ongoing Star Wars saga. Star Wars: The Last Jedi has a lot going on and, that being the case, there's likely a lot you missed on your first viewing.

One thing that the new Star Wars movies have been very good at is referencing other lore within a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars: The Last Jedi Reveals a Truth About Leia We Kind of Knew All Along

Warning: Spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi follow. Toward the beginning of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the life of one of our favorite characters is threatened: When the bridge of the Resistance cruiser Raddus is blasted by a First Order strike, it appears as if General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) has perished along with Admiral Ackbar. Those who paid attention to the numerous trailers, though, had seen glimpses of the general standing in the abandoned Rebel base hangar on Crait, yet to occur in the film. This was the hope that kept the tears of many from flowing. She had to live. But how? Then the camera zooms in on Leia floating in the freezing nothingness of space. Her fingers move. She reaches out, and suddenly she is flying toward the Raddus, through the devastated bridge still exposed to vacuum, past a hologram, and up to an airtight door.
