‘Star Wars’ Composer John Williams to Quit Franchise After Episode IX
John Williams says that “Star Wars: Episode IX” will be the last movie in the franchise he will score. “We know J.J. Abrams is preparing one now that I will hopefully do next year for him,” Williams said on radio station Kusc. “I look forward it. It will round out a series of nine, that will be quite enough for me.”

Williams has scored eight “Star Wars” films to date: “Star Wars,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” “Return of the Jedi,” “Phantom Menace,” “Attack of the Clones,” “Revenge of the Sith,” “The Force Awakens” and “The Last Jedi.”

The new petition has been started to remove Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi from the official Star Wars canon because it's so different from the original trilogy. Now that Star Wars: The Last Jedi has finally arrived in theatres, the inevitable post-mortem has begun. Such is the lot of the Star Wars franchise – each new installment is accompanied by such hype and expectation that anything other than a perfect home run attracts a great deal of analysis as to why that perfection was not achieved for everybody. Jj Abrams pitched his story for Star Wars 9 this week, and now a new report claims to know what the working title may be. While this report has not been confirmed by LucasFilm, and we don't expect it to be, this report claims that the working title for Star Wars 9 is Black Diamond, which will be produced under the new company Carbonado. This report comes from the same source that correctly identified the working titles for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Avco), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Los Alamos), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Space Bear) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (Red Cup). “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” lived up to its very high expectations with a domestic weekend gross of $220 million. Foreign territories (with China not yet opened) added another $450 million to the total so far — a strong number, to state the obvious, at anytime, even more so for the pre-Christmas date.

This is a decided improvement over last year’s franchise sidebar “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” which opened to $157 million, and only 15 percent below what “The Force Awakens” did two years ago. The return of the series opened to almost unprecedented interest and demand.

It feels a little bit like Christmas morning around the house this morning, even though we’ve still got a week and change to go before the actual day, and that’s undoubtedly because all the women here are rousing themselves a bit early to get ready for what amounts to Christmas 2017, Hollywood style. (The cats have been up for some time already, and they too are very excited, but you know, that’s just their way.) You see, in a couple hours we’re all piling into the car and making the pilgrimage up the hill to Universal City to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi. When it comes to buying advance tickets for a big movie for the whole family to see together my dear wife knows no restraints, and if the movie is prefixed with the words “Star Wars,” then all bets are most assuredly off.

Toward the beginning of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the life of one of our favorite characters is threatened: When the bridge of the Resistance cruiser Raddus is blasted by a First Order strike, it appears as if General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) has perished along with Admiral Ackbar.
