  • Injury Prevention in American Indian and Alaska Native Communities 3/28/2019 9:38:00 AMCDC's Injury Center has launched a new web page - Injury Prevention in American Indian and Alaska Native Communities. This page brings together all of the Center's current resources and information on injury prevention work in tribal communities. These resources can be used in conjunction with the traditions, languages, spiritual practices, connection to elders and social ties that tribal communities already use to prevent injuries in Indian Country.
  • New NACCHO Website Tool: the Opioid Epidemic Toolkit for Local Health Departments 3/26/2019 10:41:00 AMAs part of the CDC-funded Local Opioid Overdose Prevention and Response Project, NACCHO is created a toolkit with resources that can support public health professionals and their local opioid overdose prevention and response efforts. The Opioid Epidemic Toolkit for Local Health Departments classifies resources in five topic areas-monitoring and surveillance, prevention, harm reduction and response, linkages to care, and stakeholders and partnerships.
  • CDC Releases Widget to Help Reduce Injuries from Car Crashes 3/25/2019 9:12:00 AMCDC is releasing a widget in support of the Motor Vehicle Prioritizing Interventions and Cost Calculator for States. The widget provides states with a summary of which of 14 evidence-based interventions are currently being used in each state, as well as the ones that could be implemented. The widget also provides state-specific information about each intervention, such as number of preventable injuries, number of lives that could be saved, monetary benefit, and implementation costs.
  • Preventing Suicidal Behavior in American Indian and Alaska Native Communities: A Health Equity Issue3/19/2019 9:06:00 AMAmerican Indian and Alaska Native suicide rates are higher than the general population. Watch CDC Public Health Grand Rounds, live on Facebook March 19, at 1pm ET to learn about prevention strategies to reduce suicidal behaviors and decrease this health inequity.
  • Alcohol and marijuana use among young injured drivers in Arizona, 2008-2014 3/14/2019 9:44:00 AMArizona is one of the 32 states that currently allows the sale of medical marijuana, but the sale of recreational marijuana remains illegal in the state. This study examined alcohol and marijuana use among injured drivers aged 16-20 years evaluated at Arizona Level 1 trauma centers during 2008-2014. The study found that about 1 in 4 injured drivers aged 16-20 years tested positive for alcohol, marijuana or both substances.
