Centre for Tropical Environmental and Sustainability Sciences

The mission of TESS is to promote cutting-edge ecological and environmental research in the tropics, and the wise management, conservation and sustainable use of tropical terrestrial and coastal ecosystems, in Australia and internationally.

Centre for Research and Innovation in Sustainability Education

The Centre for Research and Innovation in Sustainability Education (CRISE) brings together educational and other social science researchers to investigate the role of education, both formal and informal, in contributing to the creation of ecologically and socially sustainable communities. Our focus is examining traditional and innovative approaches to engaging individuals and communities in meaningful learning and active participation to improve their well-being and that of the ecological and cultural systems with which they are interdependent.

Centre for Sustainable Tropical Fisheries and Aquaculture

The Centre for Sustainable Tropical Fisheries and Aquaculture aims to provide knowledge that will underpin aquatic food security for Australia, the tropics and globally.

TropWATER – Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research

TropWATER - The Centre for Tropical Water & Aquatic Ecosystem Research, undertakes influential research in fields related to water science, resource management and the ecology of water ecosystems.

Research Groups

One Health Research Group

The One Health Research Group investigates the causes and control of infectious diseases in wildlife that impact biodiversity, human health and domestic animal health.

Research Publications

Journal of Environmental Education

The Journal of Environmental Education (JEE) is housed in JCU's Centre for Research and Innovation in Sustainability Education (CRISE) which is situated within the Cairns Institute.  Published by Taylor and Francis, the JEE is by far the oldest journal in its field having been founded in the United States in 1969, some 15 years before the next academic journal in environmental education.
