Finding help

Student Mentor Program – Mentors are second or third-year students in a similar course to you, who can answer your questions and help you settle into university life – whether you are studying on or off-campus.

Learning Advice Desk – Students are encouraged to contact a Learning Advice Desk for a 15-20 minute consultation with a peer advisor. This service is for all students seeking assistance in any area of study. Service desks are located on the ground floor of the Townsville and Cairns libraries and appointments are not required. To learn more, visit The Learning Centre.

InfoHelp – Your first point of contact for library questions. Ask staff at the service desks, look out for Library Rovers, or contact them via the online help form, live chat or phone.

Liaison Librarians – Our librarians are trained to help you find resources for your study area. Email your liaison librarian if you are having trouble tracking down an article or need help with resources for an assignment.

Off-campus library service – Students who live 50 kilometres or more from the Cairns or Townsville campuses are eligible to use this service. Items can be posted to you, along with pre-paid postage bags for returns.

Postgraduate student resources – Workshops and online resources for postgraduate students.

The Desk – Supports Australian tertiary students to achieve mental and physical health and wellbeing. The Desk offers free access to online modules, tools, quizzes and advice.

YourTutor - If you need help outside of hours you can connect to YourTutor. A real life tutor will be waiting online to help you with academic writing, referencing, sentence structure, study skills, exam preparation, online search skills, numeracy, statistics, accounting, and more. YourTutor can be found through LearnJCU.

Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS)

PASS is a free academic support program, available in selected subjects. PASS provides a casual, friendly and active learning environment where you can work together with other students to better understand the content and learning objectives for a subject.

The study sessions focus on integrating course content (what to learn) with academic reasoning and study skills (how to learn). Students who consistently attend PASS sessions achieve higher results than those who do not participate. For further information, visit the PASS webpage.

The Learning Centre

Through The Learning Centre, students have access to study groups and space, learning and career advice, and an annual program of study and research skills workshops and seminars.

Visit the Learning Centre website for resources to help you with assignments, referencing, written and spoken English, maths and statistics, exam preparation and more.
