International Pathways to JCU

JCU provides study options for students who are unable to meet the academic or English entry requirements needed for direct entry into their preferred JCU degree, or for those  seeking to enhance their career prospects.

English Language Programs

James Cook University offers English language programs on both the Cairns and Townsville campuses. We offer English for Academic Purposes, with specialist teaching to give you the skills and knowledge needed to achieve the English language entry requirements for your preferred JCU degree. Visit Study English to find out more.

Foundation Program

Study a program that is the equivalent of qualifying with an Australian Year 12 level education. James Cook University's Foundation Program is designed to provide you with a supportive pathway to direct entry into a JCU undergraduate degree in your chosen field. Diploma of Higher Education

The Diploma of Higher Education (CRICOS 082840C) is a 1-year introductory course designed to provide students with a supported pathway to higher education success. This course is primarily for students who do not qualify for direct entry into a Bachelor degree, or for those seeking additional support and preparation before moving into Bachelor degree study. Diploma of Engineering

Enter directly into the second year of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) on successful completion of this one-year diploma designed specifically for international students. Diploma of Health (Nursing Pathway)

Gain direct entry into the Bachelor of Nursing Science upon successful completion of this Diploma, while receiving the support to succeed in small classes with world-class lecturers. Postgraduate Qualifying Program - Business

The Postgraduate Qualifying Program (PQP) – Business is an academic semester program designed for students whose academic qualifications are marginally below the standard entry requirements.

Upon successful completion of the PQP – Business program, students are eligible for entry to JCU’s postgraduate coursework degrees in Business, Accounting, Economics and Tourism.

Research Pathways

For students who have a Bachelor degree but do not have sufficient research experience, JCU offers research qualifying courses known as Research Methods courses as a pathway to research higher degrees. These courses include the Graduate Diploma of Research Methods (for students who have completed a 3 year degree) and Graduate Certificate of Research Methods (for students who have completed a 4 year degree).
