Accident at Hejaz Shrine Circus in Anderson leaves motorcyclist injured

An act at the Hejaz Shrine Circus at the Civic Center of Anderson left one motorcyclist injured on Sunday evening, according to circus administrator Sherwood Kaiser.

During the act, which involves motorcycles in a globe, one of the motorcycles slowed down and collided with another, leaving a rider injured, Kaiser said. Kaiser said he was uncertain as to why the motorcycle slowed down.

The rider was able to get up and walk out of the globe on his own and was alert, but he was transferred to AnMed Health Medical Center with what was believed to be a bruised shoulder, Kaiser said.

"We would like for everybody to know that he is OK, just minor injuries," Kaiser said. "We took all the precautions. We had several EMTs and first-responders there on site that got to him immediately."

Kaiser said the accident "shouldn't hamper" the upcoming Hejaz Shrine Circus performances, which will be at Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium from March 25 to March 28 and at Timmons Arena at Furman University from March 29 to March 31.

If the injured motorcyclist cannot perform, Kaiser anticipates the other two motorcyclists in the act to continue, he said.
