Reference Inquiries

Bancroft staff are available to assist you with reference and basic research inquiries about Bancroft collections. You can reach us in these ways:

• In person: stop by our Reference Desk during Reading Room open hours
• Via email: send your inquiry to bancref@library.berkeley.edu
• Via webform
• Via telephone: (510) 642-6481. (This line is answered only during Reading Room open hours; it does not have voice mail.)

Please note: email and the web form are the best ways to reach us if you are not on site.

Independent Researchers

If you are unable to come to The Bancroft Library personally to examine materials, consider hiring a local researcher. Please send an email to bancref@library.berkeley.edu to request a current list of independent researchers who have extensive knowledge of Bancroft collections and are available for hire.

If you would prefer to hire a student to assist you with your research, please contact the UC Berkeley Career Center.
