Watch: The Oral History of Image Comics

In 1992, seven acclaimed comic book artists at Marvel -- Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefeld, Jim Lee, Jim Valentino, Marc Silvestri, Erik Larsen, and Whilce Portacio -- changed the entertainment landscape as we know it.

At the height of their popularity through work on titles like Spider-Man, X-Men, and X-Force, the seven risked everything to form their own company, Image Comics.

This is the story of Image Comics over the last 25 years, as told by those who lived it, from its earth-shattering debut, born of big dreams and bigger gusto, to its dark days and its resurgence thanks to titles like The Walking Dead bringing the company to its current status as the leading force of creator-owned works and a Hollywood incubator.

We spoke with the Image founders, Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, current publisher Eric Stephenson, writers Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, Kelly Sue DeConnick, and many others. This is So Much Damage: How Image Comics changed the world.
