Passion, speed, artistry, and ingenuity sparked Italy’s love affair with the automobile almost a century ago. In Turin, Milan, and Modena, that affair continues just as fervently today. Home to names like Zagato, Pagani, Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, and Fiat, this small region has produced a staggering collection of world-class automobiles. During this unique tour trace the history of legendary innovators, meet with contemporary designers, and visit renowned factories.

Itinerary

Day 1 — Depart the U.S.

Depart the U.S for Bologna.

Day 2 — Arrive in Bologna, Transfer to Modena

Arrive in Bologna this morning. Transfer to Modena and check into your hotel, located in the center of this delightful city. Enjoy a welcome reception and dinner. (R,D)

Day 3 — Modena (Panini and Maserati)

This morning visit the impressive collection of Maseratis at the Umberto Panini Collection. During a guided visit, learn about the tumultuous history of the collection, and the lengths that the village of Modena and the Panini family had to go through in order to keep these historic cars from being destroyed and lost forever. The collection is housed on a local farm, there will be the opportunity to see how parmesan cheese is aged and enjoy a short tasting. Return to the center of Modena for some time at leisure. (B)

Day 4 —Modena (Maserati, Pagani, and Lamborghini)

Begin the day by immersing yourself in the design and production of Maserati by touring Maserati’s completely renovated production facility in downtown Modena. Then, meet with staff of the small but extraordinary automobile manufacturer of Pagani, known for its exclusive handcrafted supercars in the acclaimed Zonda and new Huayra lines, which can cost over half a million dollars. This afternoon, take an exclusive tour of the Lamborghini Factory and Museum, home to the Miura SV, the Diablo Roadster prototype, and the first and last Countach ever made.  (B)

Day 5 — Modena (Ferrari and Lamborghini)

Experience the magic of Ferrari up close, from the early open-wheel racers to the graceful 575 M model and the more recent Formula One champions. Visit the Ferrari Museum in Maranello and take a guided tour of the exhibitions detailing Ferrari’s past, present and future, and its history in Formula 1. View some of the world’s most elegant and powerful road and racing machines. See the Fiorano test track, used by the Ferrari Formula One and road car engineering team to test cutting-edge designs. Enjoy a guided visit to the Enzo Ferrari Museum, a complex featuring Enzo Ferrari’s birthplace and a futuristic automotive design gallery. Trace the life of Enzo Ferrari, the man, driver and car-maker and discover the challenges of the 20th century and his passion for speed. End the day with a guided tour of the family Lamborghini Museum in Funo di Argelato dedicated to the founder, Ferruccio and his private collection of cars and tractors. (B)

Day 6 — Turin (FIAT and Museo dell’Automobile)

Drive to Turin for a visit to the Lingotto - Fiat’s former factory which is now a commercial complex filled with shops and restaurants. Enjoy lunch on your own and then admire the view from the rooftop test track and imagine the courage of the company’s test drivers. Continue to Museo dell’Automobile, home to more than 150 classic Italian automobiles dating back to the Bernardi of 1896. Enjoy a guided tour of the museum before checking into your centrally located hotel in Turin. (B)

Day 7 — Turin (Tjaarda Studios and Pininfarina)

This morning, stop in the private studio of designer Tom Tjaarda for a discussion of design and prototypes. Then, enjoy a special morning tour of the Pininfarina design center. At the forefront of automobile artistry, Pininfarina has designed cutting edge bodywork for Ferrari and Alfa Romeo. See vehicle prototypes and learn about historic partnerships with automobile giants such as Lancia and Maserati. After lunch at a local restaurant, spend the afternoon at your leisure in Turin. Day 8 — Turin, Milan, Lake Garda

Drive to Lake Garda. En-route meet with designers at the avant-garde Zagato Design Studio. See how they have incorporated aircraft construction technology to achieve superior aerodynamics and how they have been linked with Alfa Romeo and Aston Martin among other automakers. Continue to the shores of Lake Garda and check into your hotel. (B,L)

Day 9 — Lake Garda

Enjoy the day at leisure to explore Lake Garda. (B)

Day 10 — Brescia, Mille Miglia Storica

The Mille Miglia is perhaps the most famous road race in the world. Characterized in the early years by a fierce level of competition and a supreme challenge for men and machines, it is also a test of strength and endurance for drivers racing the more than 1,000 miles from Brescia to Rome with stops only for fuel and minimal service. Feel the excitement building as you visit Brescia this morning and view some of the fine cars entered in the 2017 race. Visit the Mille Miglia Museum in Brescia dedicated to the racing legends and their machines. The museum traces the history of the race up to the present day. Enjoy a thrilling final dinner this evening, watching hundreds of vintage racing and touring cars roar past at the beginning of the legendary Mille Miglia Storica rally. (B,D)

Day 11 — Depart for the U.S.

After breakfast, transfer by coach to Verona airport for individual flights home. (B)
