Recruit new talent

The next generation of game changers

Our focus on applied learning means that our students and graduates are already experienced at using their knowledge to solve real business issues and problems.

They build practical and technical skills during their course through work experience and placements, as well as work-related projects. This continues beyond their course through internships, volunteering, and casual or part-time work.

We’ve had a number of excellent students who we’ve been able to employ. One of these has been working on a really unique test for crayfish – it’s a world-first.

The possibilities...

So, how could our students and graduates help you?

Taking on a work experience student is a good way to get extra, short-term support into your business. Students could solve a small problem, tackle low-priority but impactful jobs or undertake research using their specialist skills and knowledge. There is no cost to you and your admin will be minimal.

More about recruiting work experience students

If you have a real problem that requires a solution, we can put this challenge to a group of students or an individual. They will then tackle it as a project, with guidance from tutors. It could be to develop a new product or process, or to conduct some real-world research.

It can help you gain fresh ideas and innovative approaches. It's also a good way to spot talent early. There's no cost to you, apart from your time.

More about real-world projects

If you are a registered charity or non-profit organisation, we could help you find volunteers to provide one-off or regular support.

Taking on an intern means providing short/medium-term paid employment for an undergraduate or graduate. It's a cost-effective way to resource your smaller-scale projects, events, research or market testing – particularly during May to September, when undergraduates have no lectures.

We usually offer funding to help pay for the intern so look out for the latest offer.

More about internships

You can recruit a student for a longer period of paid work experience (9-15 months). It's usually taken between their second and third year of undergraduate study, hence the name 'sandwich year'. We can offer you lots of practical recruitment support to ensure you get the right person.

Many employers use these placements as a long interview process and often they go on to recruit the student afterwards.

If you have a graduate-level vacancy you want to fill, we can help. We offer a fully-managed recruitment service to ensure you get the right person.

More about recruiting graduates

If you have a part-time or casual job that you need to fill fast, a student could be a good candidate. They can work for up to 16 hours a week while studying.

We have a Student Employment Agency on-campus which has 2,500 registered students and recent graduates on its books. It can offer you full end-to-end agency support including recruitment and payroll.

More about the Student Employment Agency

If you are looking for more of a two-way relationship with new talent, you could opt to become a mentor or share your knowledge with students in other ways, such as through guest lectures, mock interviews and assessment centres, or employability workshops.

These are opportunities to ‘give back’ and help students become more work-ready-and-able. But they can also bring benefits to you and your business.
