Two women killed in separate road accidents

RISHIKESH: Two women, including an 18 year-old girl, died while four others injured in two separate road accidents in Rishikesh on Saturday.

The first incident was reported from Neelkanth bypass route where a car fell into a 200-metre-deep gorge near Boothnath temple in which a 62-year-old woman from Bikaner, Rajasthan, was killed.

The deceased has been identified as Rajbala, while her husband Mangelal (68) and 24 year old car driver Gurupreet Singh, a resident of Punjab, suffered injuries. According to police, the driver lost control of the steering wheel while taking a sharp turn.

SHO of Lakshman Jholla police station, Pradeep Kumar Rana, said, “After getting information, a police team reached the spot and started the rescue operation. Rajbala died on the spot while her husband and the driver have been shifted to AIIMS Rishikesh. They were coming from Rajasthan to Geeta Bhavan ashram in Lakshman Jhoola. We have informed their family members.”


Another road accident took place on Haridwar-Najibabad highway in which an 18 year-old-girl was killed and two others severely injured when their car collided into a dumper truck coming from the opposite direction.


The deceased has been identified as Anam Rani from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, while the injured include her elder sister Nazia and brother-in-law Ateek Ahmad.


Sub-inspector Purnanad Sharma said, “Anam Rani died on the spot, while her sister and brother-in-law have been shifted to a nearby district hospital. Meanwhile, the dumper truck has been seized and we are trying to nab the driver. The body has been sent to hospital for autopsy and further investigation is going on.”
