Their yearlong romance has come to an end.

Amber Heard and Elon Musk have split, the actress confirms on Instagram.

"Being in the public eye means having to explain yourself to so many people, so much of the time. In this case, I'd like to remain more quiet. Although we have broken up, Elon and I care deeply for one another and remain close," she wrote on Tuesday. "Thank you for the continued support, respect, and privacy during these difficult, very human times."

Musk also took to the comment section on her Instagram account to clear things up.

"Just to clear up some of the press storm this weekend, although Amber and I did break up, we are still friends, remain close and love one another," read his message. "Long distance relationships when both partners have intense work obligations are always difficult, but who know what the future holds."

"The timing wasn't good for them," a source told Us Weekly. Another source tells People that they "are both very busy with work now. It was getting hard to find time to see each other."

Heard is currently filming Aquaman in Australia, and Musk is overseeing new projects for Tesla and SpaceX.

Heard, 31, and Musk, 46, made their relationship public when they both took to their respective Instagram accounts to post a photo that showed the billionaire and Tesla CEO with a lipstick kiss-mark left visibly on his cheek.

Heard and Musk were seen out and about together last year following their respective divorces from Johnny Depp and Westworld's Talulah Riley. Musk also has five sons from his previous marriage with author Justine Musk.

Musk had apparently been interested in meeting Heard years ago, when he nearly met the actress while he was doing a cameo in Robert Rodriguez's 2013 movie Machete Kills. (Heard starred as Miss San Antonio in the action film.) A source told The Hollywood Reporter that Musk would send emails to Rodriguez and others in order to set up a meeting with Heard.

A rep for Heard did not immediately respond to THR's request for comment.
