Michael Bauer has been following the food and wine scene at the San Francisco Chronicle for more than 28 years. Before working at The Chronicle, he was a reporter and editor at the Kansas City Star and the Dallas Times Herald.  

 

Awards & Recognition

Bauer is a member and past chairman of the James Beard Restaurant Awards Committee, past president of the Association of Food Journalists and the editor/author of three cookbooks.

He has won multiple national awards for his restaurant reviews and under his leadership the Food and Wine section won four James Beard Awards for outstanding food coverage as well as multiple awards from the Association of Food Journalists.
