Co-director, Oregon Gray Panthers, 1974–1980; director, Oregon Legal Services for the Elderly, 1977–1979; public member, Oregon Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators, 1978–1979.

Democrat. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, 1980; reelected 1982, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992 and 1994. Elected to the U.S. Senate, 1996; reelected 1998, 2004, 2010 and 2016. Born in Myrtle Creek, October 24, 1956. Stanford University, B.A., 1979; master’s degree in Public Policy from Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, 1982. He was Executive Director of Portland Habitat for Humanity before serving as President of the World Affairs Council of Oregon for seven years, where he continues to serve on the Board of Trustees. He and his wife Mary have two children.

Democrat. Elected to the Oregon House of Representatives, 1999; became speaker of the House in 2007. Elected to the U.S. Senate, 2008; reelected 2014. Committee member: Appropriations; Banking, Housing and Urban Development; Budget; Environment and Public Works. Term expires 2021.
