Oman helps US evacuate embassy staff from Yemen

Muscat: On the Royal Orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, Oman has helped evacuate the US diplomatic mission in Yemen.



The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday issued a statement about the evacuation of the US Mission in Yemen. The statement read as follows: "In response to the Royal Orders of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said to assist the American side in the evacuation of the US Diplomatic Mission in Yemen for humanitarian reasons, the Sultanate, in coordination with the Yemeni parties, yesterday (Wednesday) secured and facilitated the evacuation process and the transfer of members of the mission to the Sultanate using one of the planes of the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO). Those evacuated left here to their country at the same day".

Meanwhile the White House and the United States Department of State expressed gratitude and admiration to the Government of Oman yesterday for its role in securing the temporary relocation of American diplomats departing the U.S. Embassy in Sana'a, Yemen.

"Under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Omani government ensured a swift and safe departure of U.S. government personnel based in Sana'a.   We deeply appreciate His Majesty's concern for the safety of our personnel and unwavering friendship," US embassy press statement from Oman said.
