Warner Bros. and 'The Nun' Lead Second Highest Grossing September Ever

Warner Bros. and 'The Nun' Lead Second Highest Grossing September Ever
September 2018 delivered some stellar numbers, finishing as the second largest September of all-time behind last year's record performance. That said, while over 40% of September 2017's calendar gross was attributed to one film alone * Warner Bros.'s It * 2018's top earner * WB's The Nun * accounted for just 16.4% of the month's total gross, serving as evidence of a more, well-rounded month altogether. Additionally, for the third year in a row, WB led the month of September, and, like last year, dominated the competition, serving as the only studio to not only bring in over $100 million for the month, but by bringing in nearly $235 million from seven films in release. As already mentioned, WB's release of New Line's The Nun led the way in September, bringing in just over $109 million over the course of the month. Following a franchise record opening of $53.8 million early in the month, The Nun has since gone

‘A Million Little Things’ Series Creator Turns the Scorned-Woman Trope Inside Out

‘A Million Little Things’ Series Creator Turns the Scorned-Woman Trope Inside Out
[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for “A Million Little Things” Episode 3, “Save the Date.”]

A Million Little Things” creator and executive producer D.J. Nash knew he was taking a chance when he introduced the character of Katherine (Grace Park) as a cold workaholic. “When I was talking to Grace about this role, I said, ‘In the pilot, we’re not going to understand her. But in Episode 3 we will.’”

That risky investment paid off in Wednesday’s episode when it produced the opportunity to create unexpected empathy for both parties, especially Delilah (Stephanie Szostak), otherwise known as the mistress of Katherine’s husband Eddie (David Giuntoli). Furthermore, Katherine upends the scorned-woman trope when – instead of devolving into a vengeful caricature – she has a calm and heartfelt conversation with Delilah, who also happens to be her friend. The women are reeling from the affair’s sudden discovery, but they’re also grief-stricken from the suicide of

Hurricanes Are the New High-Speed Car Chases: Why Weather Reporters Will Never Get Out of the Rain

Hurricanes Are the New High-Speed Car Chases: Why Weather Reporters Will Never Get Out of the Rain
Hurricane Michael has temporarily elbowed Hurricane Trump out of the headlines — actually, that’s probably more wish than reality. However, as news operations shift resources toward covering the massive Category 4 storm in the Florida panhandle, countless news reporters and weathercasters will drape themselves with station-logo ponchos — the better to get drenched and steel themselves against 155 mph winds, all in the name of a kickass live shot.

In the scheme of things, it’s silly: Everyone knows it’s really, really windy outside. And it’s clearly dangerous; as TV writer Kevin Biegel shared on Twitter, “Can the reporters in Florida please stop with the weather porn of standing in the wind? Growing up in Florida we knew of a woman whose boyfriend was decapitated by a piece of plywood in a hurricane — don’t go outside, you dolts.”

Logic be damned: If there’s a chance to abandon the safety

West Coast Iatse Members Ratify Three-Year Contract

West Coast members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees have ratified a three-year successor deal to their master contract.

Iatse announced the ratification of the contract, which includes a 3% hike in annual wage minimums and covers 43,000 members, on Wednesday. The new deal is retroactive to July 31.

Leaders of 12 of the 13 West Coast Iatse locals backed the new three-year tentative agreement with studios and networks. Leaders of Editors Guild Local 700 strongly opposed the deal, saying that it fell short on provisions for turnaround time, funding for the pension plan, and new media residuals from shows aired on streaming services in a rare instance of dissension within Iatse, which usually has presented a united front.

The union said that the new deal includes “broad gains” in several key areas for workers, with no givebacks along with “substantial” enhancements to turn-around, and the option of employer-provided round-trip transportation or housing after long work days.
