    the new Cat Power is classic Cat Power because Chan Marshall is still raw as ever. she’s also more assertive, a single mom & no longer on Matador. we hung out in Miami and NYC and I tried to capture a complicated person who’s given a lot of herself…

    obv there are exceptions & it’s always been a negotiation but the fight just starts from a diff place now, in part bc of publications that will allow subjects to pick writers, photo approval, quote approval (!), agree to interviews during photoshoots, no interview at all, etc etc
