Paramount Network’s Shelved ‘Heathers’ Adaptation Gets International Distribution

Paramount Network’s Shelved ‘Heathers’ Adaptation Gets International Distribution
Paramount Network’s shelved “Heathers” adaptation has secured international distribution for the show in several European and African markets.

Jason Micallef’s series adaptation of the ’80s cult classic was delayed and eventually scrapped by the fledgling Viacom network last month. Featuring suicides by several high school students and the destruction of a school building, the show was deemed too controversial to air on the ad-supported network in the weeks following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. In a statement, the Viacom network said its decision to hit the pause button in the series was “right thing to do.”

It will instead air on HBO or its streaming service in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Andorra, Portugal, Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Sao Tome & Principe.

These Family Reunification Videos Show the Horror of Trump’s Border Policy
As pundits and politicians race to label Donald Trump’s Monday morning press conference with Vladimir Putin as the most disgraceful moment of the Trump presidency, close to 3,000 migrant children still remain separated from the parents. The Department of Health and Human Services has made paltry efforts to reunify families since the Trump administration instituted its “zero tolerance” policy in May, so much so that late last month a federal judge mandated that all families be reunited within 30 days, and that all children under the age of five be reunited with their parents within 14 days.

‘Blindspotting’ Film Review: Ambitious Oakland Tale Suffers From Too Many Ideas

‘Blindspotting’ Film Review: Ambitious Oakland Tale Suffers From Too Many Ideas
Having too few ideas has been the downfall of many a film, but sometimes too many can be just as much of a problem. “Blindspotting,” which premiered on opening night of this year’s 2018 Sundance Film Festival, puts far more on its plate than it knows how to handle.

It’s a story about gentrification, police violence, the rules of being a white person growing up surrounded by black culture, the criminal justice system, institutionalized racism, guns in the home and the semiotics of hair, jolting with jarring artlessness between witty comedy and intense drama.

Co-stars and co-writers Daveed Diggs (“Wonder”) and Rafael Casal have a lot to say, much of it funny and/or provocative, but neither they nor first-time feature director Carlos López Estrada can figure out a way to shape all this material into a cohesive film.
