Stephen and Ann Barry, London

Posted on May 10, 2013 in

For a pair of jazz loving Londoners from the UK visiting the twin cities, an evening at the Dakota was a revelation.

On the night we went, the warm up artist was 60s-style folk singer Rebecca Pidgeon, who hails from Scotland. She put everyone in the mood for the appearance of the fabulous singer-songwriter Madeleine Peyroux, who started out busking in the streets of Paris.

The Dakota is a fairly large but intimate venue in downtown Minneapolis with an appreciative audience and the added bonus of serving delicious food. The service was fast but discrete; all in all a night to remember.

We just wish we could have stayed in Minneapolis longer, which would have allowed us to sample more of what the Dakota has to offer on the jazz scene.
