After sold-out performances and an extended run at Jungle Theater, Thomasina Petrus brings the songs from Lady Day to the Dakota for two unforgettable evenings of tribute to Billie Holiday.
Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill recounts Billie Holiday’s life story through the songs that made her famous. The year: 1959. The place: a small, intimate bar in Philadelphia where Holiday puts on a show that, unbeknownst to the audience, will leave them witnesses to one of her final performances.
About Thomasina Petrus
Thomasina Petrus is a 25-year equity actor and professional jazz vocalist, a company member at Penumbra Theatre, Mixed Blood Theatre, and Park Square Theatre, and has performed with the twin cities most beloved artists. Mentors and friends, James ÒCornbreadÓ Harris, Sr., Javetta Steele, T. Mycheal Rambo, Stokley, Walter Chancellor, Austene Cleopatra Van and Prince, have encouraged her to continue creating exceptional music and theatre by launching ThomasinaProduction (.com). She has toured the country with 6 separate stagings of Lady Day @ Emerson’s Bar & Grill by Lanie Robertson, and her original production Lady Days for young audiences and elderly residences (particularly memory-care patients). Etta James Dreams to Remember, and her wildly successful Hot Chocolate Holiday musical series and her newest endeavor the 5 women a cappella ensemble The Sound Effects, have been but a few of her ever growing artistic creations. Other original productions include HOLD, a play on incarcerated women thru music and poetry. Thomasina is a 2015/2016 Playwright Center McKnight Theatre Arts Fellow. Thomasina is currently staring in the world premiere of Five Points by Harrison David Rivers, at Theatre Latté Da, followed by Lady Day @ Emerson’s Bar & Grill by Lanie Robertson, at the Jungle Theatre in May-June, 2018.
A successful departure from performing, Thomasina has also created Thomasina’s Cashew Brittle. Her delicious melt-in-your-mouth Cashew Brittle and new Apple Brittle, have been featured at the MN State Fair and now the US Bank Stadium suites and club houses, and her online store.
