On this day the US Congress passed the Coinage Act of 1864 allowing the Secretary of the Treasury to authorize the inclusion of the phrase "In God We Trust" on one-cent and two-cent coins.
Today, the phrase is seen on all US coins and paper money including the five dollar bill and the penny, which feature our park's most visited site, the Lincoln Memorial.

Over 265,000 American women served during the Vietnam era (1956 through 1975) and over 11,000 saw duty in Vietnam. The majority served as nurses, caring for thousands of servicemen in difficult conditions. Between 1964 and 1973, dedicated nurses tended to over 300,000 wounded, saving nearly 98% of those who eventually reached hospitals.

I've visited the National Mall and Memorials many times and never get tired of being there. This area of DC is truly one of our most important national treasures. I'm always proud to be an American as... I remember the great men and women who've served our country in the military and government .
Once our family of 3 went on a tour of the memorials at night. We were the only ones on the tour, but our guide took time to answer all of our questions and fill us with so much interestin g informatio n. The tour lasted more than 2 hours, since we all love history! I only wish there were more talks and tours available in the off-season . The rangers seem to be understaff ed and spread quite thin around the area, but when we do encounter one, they're always friendly and willing to share their knowledge.
Thank you for your service to visitors from around the world. See More

Dear National Parks Services,
I must say I'm a little disappoint ed with the lack of respect for our nation's monuments and memorials. These are not play grounds for children. These are places to honor... those who have made sacrifices for our country.
Furthermor e, I spent a great deal of my time walking around picking trash up off the ground.
With the amount of visitors coming to our Nations Capital to visit the monuments and memorials, I would expect you to have a plan to keep the parks presentabl e.
I have visited Washington D.C. many times and I have never seen these parks look so bad. You should be embarrasse d. See More

I visited the mall a few years ago before the MLK Jr monument was revealed. I wasn't able to see all because my family and I were caught in a torrential downpour. Happy to say that although we still... were caught in a mini shower (which prevented us from seeing the Lincoln Memorial) I along with my friends were able to see the MLK Jr monument. What an awesome testament to a great man! And by the way my coworker and my boyfriend had never been to Washington DC so it was a great experience for them! The site was beautifull y manicured, clean and inspiring! See More

For the most part, everywhere we went was clean and very well kept. Except for the Jefferson Memorial. The women's restroom was a MESS! There was police tape up on some of the stalls indicating they... were working on them. The other stalls were dirty, wadded up toilet paper on the floor behind the toilet, a couple of the stalls did not have toilet paper, and the couple I looked in, there were no seat covers. The restrooms smelled horrible too. Sorry. But that's the way it was See More

The smell of raw sewage was awful! Although I enjoy the memorials and the stroll. I hope that the smell is all gone on my next visit!
