We offer ranger led tours at both Theodore Roosevelt Island and Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve.
Theodore Roosevelt Island Kayak Tours
Park Rangers are offering kayaking programs around Theodore Roosevelt Island. Visitors will need to either bring their own Kayak, or they can rent on an hourly basis from the boat house. Programs will being with a brief safety talk, and we will paddle the circumference of Theodore Roosevelt Island. Program topics will cover the history of Roosevelt Island, historic monuments and bridges seen on the paddle route, and Potomac River watershed ecosystems. If you are renting a kayak, please estimate about 2 hrs for your rental. There are 8 visitor slots per program.
Tours will leave from the Thompson Boat Center on the Georgetown Waterfront.
Every other Saturday starting June 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dyke Marsh Kayak Tours
Come discover Dyke Marsh with GWMP Park Rangers. This treasured resource is a natural filter to the Potomac River, and greater Chesapeake Bay watershed. Titled the largest remaining freshwater tidal marsh on the east coast, its rare habitat is home to hundreds of birds, fish, amphibians, and mammals. Despite the vital benefits Dyke Marsh offers to the community, urban development has destroyed over half of the preserve. Learn how you can become a part of Dyke Marsh’s future on the water!
When: Sundays: August 26th, September 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th, October, 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Where: Belle Haven Marina - Mariner Sailing School, George Washington Memorial Pkwy, Alexandria, VA 22307 (arrive early for kayak rental)
