Napa 'Porsche' may be the priciest Craigslist rust pile ever
People will pay a lot for old air-cooled Porsches these days, so under $6,000 for 1956 model 356A Coupe sounds like a great deal.
Unfortunately, the 356A offered on Craigslist by a Napa County seller for $5,356 needs work.
At least the seller says it's a 356A. It's hard to tell in its current condition.
The hapless Porsche looks like it was locked away in a salt mine for 50 years, and this is what's left.
Still, you can't accuse the seller of false advertising. "Rusty carcass" is spot on.
According to the ad, the title is clean and the VIN numbers match, but it has no extra parts. The seller is apparently referring to extras like wheels, doors, an engine, dashboard or a roof.

Given the corrosion, $5,365 might be a little on the high side despite the authentic VIN plate and documentation. We asked Matt deGarmo, president of Matthew deGarmo Ltd. Classic Motorcars in Norwalk, Conn., to put a ballpark price on the Porsche.
He didn't mince words.
"This car has zero value," deGarmo said in an email.
On the other hand, for the price of a 10-year-old Corolla, you can truthfully brag that you own a vintage Porsche.
Just don't let anyone see it.
Hat tip to Jalopnik for being first to find this gem.
