Lodi’s best hotel, restaurant and spa conveniently share a leafy 7-acre enclave, the site of entrancing gardens and graceful living since 1902. Wine & Roses’ current owners, who took over a 10-room bed and breakfast in 1999, have steadily expanded its accommodations and amenities while setting a sophisticated standard for the Central Valley.

Setting: Although suburban homes have risen around the site just off busy West Turner Road, tall trees and hedges make it feel like a world unto itself. A half-mile east lie farms and vineyards; a mile west is Lodi Lake. School Street’s restaurants, pubs and shops are less than 10 minutes by car.

The appeal: All-in-one oasis, with luxurious but low-key vibe. The 66 rooms and suites in low-rise buildings come in four styles, with many individual variations, from the vintage inn to rustic luxury Garden rooms, serene Spa rooms and rich-hued, modern Palm rooms. Renowned Bay Area chef Bradley Ogden, a two-time James Beard Award winner, oversees the menus of the regionally focused Towne House Restaurant and its adjacent lounge, which offers nightly music. In the spa, organic products and well-priced services attract a devoted clientele.

Insider’s tips: Among the spa’s most popular body treatments is the Sticks and Stones massage, employing sculpted basalt stones and birchwood massagers ($115 for 60 minutes, $170 for 90 minutes). Spa customers with services costing $100 or more may also use the large, sunny pool on another corner of the property, otherwise open only to hotel guests.

Good to know: Towne Corner Cafe & Market, expected to open this spring next to the on-site Lodi tasting room and visitor center, will offer locally sourced breakfast and lunch to go or enjoy there, plus coffee, produce and baked goods. The hotel hosts between 100 and 200 weddings a year. The daily resort fee of $15 includes Wi-Fi, parking and discounted wine tasting, among other amenities.
